Interview with Jason Ritchie, Formerly Incarcerated Individual and Founder of Project Rebound

A person is a person, not their crime.

Far too often, incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals are portrayed in the media as broken and violent. Yet, we know this is far from the truth. Our mission is to dismantle this false narrative by giving incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals the platform to reclaim their stories. From our Youtube series sharing successful reintegration stories through our role as a resource for youth seeking to learn more about the juvenile justice system, we aim to culminate empathy through our unique journalistic approach.

Since 2019, we have interviewed formerly incarcerated youth across San Diego, California in efforts to educate youth on the criminal justice system. Through our journalistic 1:1 dialogue approach, advocacy panels, and partnerships with youth-led organizations across the nation, we aim to present a narrative that reinforces the idea that “a person is a person, not their crime.”

The stories of San Diego’s very own formerly incarcerated youth have driven us to break the stigma on formerly incarcerated youth everywhere.
